IP55 Standard – Environmental Sealing Protection

The IP55 rating is based on the international IEC 60529 standard, which defines the level of protection a mechanical enclosure provides against the ingress of dust and water. The standard is widely used in industry and electronics as a uniform benchmark for comparing the protective performance of equipment housings, enclosures, and transport containers in outdoor environments. Its purpose is to replace general terms such as “water resistant” or “sealed” with an engineering definition that can be tested and validated.
Under the standard requirements, the enclosure is tested under environmental conditions that simulate real storage and transportation scenarios: exposure to industrial or ground dust, rain, direct water spray, and water jets from all directions. These tests verify that the ingress of particles or water does not impair the function or safety of the protected equipment. From an engineering perspective, this means that the packaging enclosure is not merely a physical barrier, but a controlled sealing system designed to maintain a stable internal environment over time.
MAGEN packaging solutions are based on a rigid polypropylene enclosure design incorporating dedicated structural profiles bonded to panels through controlled polypropylene welding processes. This structure enables the creation of a rigid outer shell together with precise closure interfaces and repeatable sealing performance, even after repeated opening and transportation cycles. The integration of profiles, locking mechanisms, and welded joints ensures structural continuity and long-term sealing integrity throughout an extended service life.
In addition, the corners of the packaging are engineered with drain channels that collect water from the upper surfaces and divert it away from sealing areas. This design reduces water accumulation at closure interfaces and helps prevent ingress through sensitive points after exposure to rain or direct spray.
Compliance with IP55 requirements ensures that the packaging protects electronic equipment and sensitive systems during outdoor storage, transportation, and field operation.

MAGEN packaging solutions are designed and manufactured in accordance with the principles of the standard, and in relevant applications have passed controlled sealing tests verifying the preservation of a protected equipment environment against dust and water exposure throughout the logistics lifecycle.
